If you know us, and you know Brice, you know that things have not been easy. He's been a tough kid from the moment he was born--strong-willed, temper tantrums that would go for hours, defiance, moods (!!), etc. You name it. And if you have a tough kid, you know that whenever you talk about the issues, people give you LOTS of suggestions. Finally, after several people suggested this, we tried to put Brice on a gluten-free diet this past January.
It wasn't hard; we live by Trader Joes and Whole Foods, so we are close to lots of excellent gluten-free options. We've always been careful about food dye. The change we saw in Brice was amazing. He calmed down, he was happier, easier to work with (note: not easy; still Brice. Same issues, just at a very manageable level).
So, a few weeks ago, we decided to try and add a little gluten back in. And oh. my. goodness. The poor child. Poor us! It was night and day. It was hard for me to even be around him. So, for the past 5 or so days, we're back (all of us) off gluten. And even though i'm sure there is still some in his system, he's back to Brice. Hard, but happy-ish. Excitable, but accessible.

glad to hear something is working! bummer that it is something so prominent, but seems like it will be worth it.
good parenting. ;)
WOAH WOAH WOAH!
Brave mama! Good for you! It's so fascinating to me that you can see the different like night and day! That's amazing!
soo....umm...what does he eat? Give me a run down. What's a typical breakfast, lunch, dinner?
People have asked me if I've looked into dietary adjustments for my kids and after I bite their heads off and refuse to speak to them for a week (I'm kinda touchy about food!) I consider it. I've even kept a chart about what Andrew ate each day and what his behavior was like...to see if I could see any patterns (I'd be keeping an eye more on dairy, I think) and I could see any patterns so I gave up.
I'm really impressed you are doing this! What a lucky little guy!
Strong work, Mama!
hey! That WAS NOT Dave Rice! That was me! Robyn! What the heck??
wow! i'm proud and impressed. good job making it a family thing for brice. he's got great support... and there is so much stuff out there now. thankfully.
So I know I'm a little late catching up, but that's amazing. So glad it's working!! I'm a big proponent of solving problems through diet, and it's nice to see a positive case study! Well done, mama!
